Jed Steer's impressive Norwich debut proved a winner not only for the Canaries but also three lucky entrants in the scoreline competition. As Dirk Kuyt's late goal whittled the potential claimants of the £156 jackpot down to ten, Dawn Butcher, P Snell, Chas, Jimmy, George Wilson, John Ryan, Terri Graham, Gary Quinn, N Bloom and Jason, it was Norwich's two one victory at WBA which sealed £52 for Chas, Jimmy and Gary Quinn. | 24/01/2012 - General Managers Half Yearly Report |
I have written half season reports for the past 5 years, from the reserves with Sharpie as Manager…yes he can do that too…to this time last year when we sat at the top of the table, but I have to say this has been the hardest one to put together. Last season we finished poorly for a squad of players that challenged for promotion for a good chunk of the year and unfortunately that form continued well into this season. No one could put their finger on why and we continued to struggle to turn things around. After Steve left we managed to get our first points on the board and then appointed a good man in Shane Austin. I can honestly say that I have not come across a more honest and decent bloke in all my years in football. He was recommended to us by some of the finest managers and football names in the area and we were only too pleased to give him the chance instead of going around and around the same old ‘sacked’ merry-go-round that other clubs do. Why not start a fresh and give someone new a go? After all, the club did that with me! Shane has such enthusiasm for the game and for his players it is very infectious and when you speak to him, you are left with a real sense of excitement about the future. He then brought in Spreads and the enthusiasm went up a notch! Both men talk a great tactical game, encourage when needed and know when to put their foot down, all ingredients needed for success. So whilst I look forward to the future I still look back to the squad of players that Steve had and feel a sense of sadness that they could not find a way to knuckle down and deliver for the manager. There are lads who have left that I have nothing but the utmost of respect for and there are some that just could not stomach the fight. Each of the them know the category they fit into, as I spoke to them individually when they left, so I won’t name names publically but I do hope that the names in the latter category take on board my comments and change their attitude or they will continue to move from club to club chasing a winning formula and more often than not, they will find themselves left out in the cold. Not every team wins every game every season, but a good player works hard in that team through thick and thin and doesn’t jump ship in times of trouble. I remember a team, from five years ago, that were recently promoted from this division. They struggled for two years and got better and better and by the time they went up the squad was 80% unchanged from the first one those five years previous. They did it together and we will do our utmost to get in the right characters to do it for Stow. Of the first team players that are left from last year all are giving everything for Shane and Spreads, although Nathan has a good few weeks off now!!, and I know they will work with him to fight for every 90 minutes until the end of the season. We will then sit back and look at a new plan and objectives over the coming years. Until then, many players will come in and some will go out, whilst Shane and Spreads work with Dom, Mark, Andy and the Glen’s to set the club up for June and pre-season. We already have some promising additions to the squad and some lined up for next year whilst the existing older heads are starting to hit their straps with solid performances. The reserves have had a mix season but one in which the club can be proud. A good county cup run and consistent performances in the league have seen many of the players step up into the 1st team. So much so that we were worried about not having a team for the cup match against Brantham with too many players cup tied! With that being the case, a thank you to Jamie Sharp for stepping in and joining up with Shane and the boys for the Grundisburgh game. With reserve and youth players stepping up through the system, management communication has been vitally important and has improved over the past few months. When a position has become vacant and needs strengthening then a Reserve player has been there to do the job. Some have remained with the 1st team, some have returned, but it is always good to know we have the ability across the whole squad and we certainly feel now that the numbers are back to a healthy level; although I would expect some further additions in the coming weeks. Training has been tough, with the loss of our facilities in Debenham, but the friendlies have proved a good test for the squad and the inter-house match last week gave Shane and Spreads a good look at all the players. It’s important for the players on show to know it’s not just their footballing ability that is being looked at, but their personalities and attitudes, some of which need to be addressed if they want to make progress. As for a new venue to train, well we are working as hard as we can on that front. Finally, congratulations to young Tubes for reaching 200 appearances for the 1st team. It shows tremendous commitment to reach such a milestone and I thank him for his support.

| 22/01/2012 - Becchio fails to deliver for postman |
Leeds substitute Luciano Becchio's 90th minute goal robbed postman Mark Grimwood of the £100 jackpot in the latest scoreline competition. Although David Walker, Steve Martin, C Tredray, B Diaper, Wally Mayhew, Simon Thorpe, Sharpy and Steve Cooke correctly predicted the 3-1 Leeds victory, the result from the early kick off at Carrow Rd had whittled down the potential winners to just one and as the clock ticked to the 90 minute mark at Elland Rd Norwich supporter Mark Grimwood's decision not to back his Canaries with a victory whilst selecting a narrow defeat for Town looked a shrewd judgement. However Becchio changed all that so the jackpot rolls over to £125 this week for the cup ties WBA v Norwich City and Liverpool v Man Utd. Don't miss out on your chance see a scoreline seller or contact the club. |
